In what has become one of DMI’s most cherished holiday traditions, 2023 marks the 20th year DMI has donated to the Make-a-Wish foundation and has donated over $79,000 since 2004.  This year, DMI Companies, Inc. donated $5,000 to the Make-a-Wish foundation to grant a wish to a local child in need.

For those unfamiliar with the Make-a-Wish Foundation, the organization was founded in 1980 and grants life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses such as cancer, blood disorders, genetic disorders, and more.  Research shows that a wish can give kids the strength to fight against and even overcome a critical illness.  Additionally, it is said that a wish renews hope, uplifts spirits, and encourages the belief in the impossible.  Each wish granted forever transforms the lives of children, their families, and entire communities.  To date, the Make-a-Wish Foundation has granted hundreds of thousands of life-changing wishes to children battling critical illnesses.

This year, DMI’s funds granted a wish for a local 15-year-old boy named Joshua in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, who was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins’s lymphoma.  Joshua wished to be fitted for Calloway golf clubs.  To honor his wish, he will be fitted at Golf Galaxy and will have a party at Top Golf.  Some of his favorite things include math, riding quads, listening to country music, playing golf, eating sushi, and going camping.  We wish Joshua and his family the best.

To raise funds to donate to Make-a-Wish and other various local children’s charities, the DMI’s Children’s Charity Committee regularly hosts fundraising events at our Pennsylvania facilities, such as 50/50 raffles, basket/prize raffles, Casual Fridays, and other various fundraising events throughout the year.  The DMI Children’s Charity Committee was founded with a mission to support organizations that provide a solid foundation for children to grow into their best selves by ensuring their basic needs are met, such as food, shelter, medical care, and education, with the hope that these children will thrive, become vital members of their communities, and pay it forward to help their communities grow.  In addition to the funds raised throughout the year, DMI matches the donations.  We hope to expand our fundraising efforts to other DMI facilities across the country as our workforce grows and donate to charities local to those facilities.

Other children’s charities that DMI regularly donates to or have donated to in the past include the Ronald McDonald House Charities, The Hope Center Back to School Bash, Special Olympics, Toys for Tots, Foster for Love, Officer Phil Child Safety Program, Harvest for Bounty, Washington County Food Bank, Monongahela Library, Charleroi Elementary School, The Children’s Home (Mario Lemieux Foundation), CASA for Kids, and many more.  Thank you to all DMI employees who regularly donate to and participate in the Children’s Charity Committee fundraisers.  Your donations help to make this possible.

Please consider donating to Make-a-Wish or a charity of your choice this holiday season.  For more information about the Make-a-Wish Foundation or to donate, visit wish.org.
