biography

Mark Smith is a successful and influential business leader who serves as the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) for DMI Companies. Previously, he held the role of Director of Sales and Marketing for seven years, where he led a team of highly experienced and skilled managers for DMI’s Business Units along with the Marketing Department in the ongoing development of the organization’s sales and marketing strategy.

In 1997, Mark joined DMI Companies as the Marketing Manager, where he served in a variety of sales and marketing roles, including Business Development Manager for GSI. Mark has worked with DMI’s management team on a variety of critical projects, including online initiatives, product development, and acquisitions.

Mark has played a significant role on behalf of DMI in influencing building codes, directly participating in the code development process by testifying in front of both the International Code Council (ICC) and the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO) building code development committees.

As an early advocate of DMI’s sustainability efforts, Mark was the first person within the company to become a LEED-accredited professional. His involvement in DMI’s sustainability efforts led him to provide several presentations and articles on the development and impact of LEED within the industry.

Mark holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and received his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz School of Business.

Mark has consistently worked to build DMI’s network and influence within the industry. Over the past two decades, he has served within a variety of professional industry organizations, including:

  • Board President for Green Building Alliance (GBA) of Pittsburgh
  • Voting Member for ASHRAE’s Technical Committee on Duct Design
  • Board Treasurer of Spiral Duct Manufacturers Association (SPIDA)
  • Vice Chair of HARDI’s Sustainability Committee
